A “Legislator Meet and Greet” and Candidate Forum Event is being hosted by social justice advocates of Fairfax County (NOVA). This event prior to fall elections is for constituents, providing them an opportunity to introduce themselves and their concerns to state legislator and candidates. Invitees include incumbents and candidates whose districts cover all or part of Fairfax County and surrounding area. Plan to join us, please.

Immigration Reform: What you need to know. Are you ready?

This event will provide an update on the national and Virginia statewide campaigns for immigration reform as well as an overview and discussion on the “gang of eight” bill that passed the Senate in June and the current status of reform legislation in the House of Representatives. We will also discuss what you should know to be ready should reform legislation become law. For DREAMers, we will be holding an information session about the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and assisting participants in completing applications. We will also be discussing legislative issues for the upcoming Virginia General Assembly such as the Campaign for immigrant access to driver licenses in Virginia. We will provide information on your rights should you be stopped by ICE or local law enforcement.

Virginians for Comprehensive Immigration Reform - Strategy Meeting

strategy meeting that will bring together immigrant rights advocates and allies from across the state to come together to discuss and hopefully come to a consensus concerning principles that we would like to guide the debate about CIR. We will also formulate a strategy for reaching out to Virginia’s residents to educate and create awareness about the urgency of passing CIR legislation now as well as push for the principles inclusion in the CIR debate in Washington via advocacy of Virginia’s federal elected representatives.
