Contact your Legislator

5 Easy Steps to contacting your Virginia Legislators

1) Please take a few moments to consider and think through what matters most to you.

What issues are important to you as a member of the immigrant community and/or as an advocate for issues that have an impact on the community?

Why is this issue especially important to you?

Please to look at the VACOLAO’s current legislative agenda that is supporting or opposing, CLICK HERE. Please write down the bill number of issues you oppose or support. [You will need this when you are calling, emailing, and/or writing to your state representative]

2) Do you know who your delegate, state senator, and their respective district number? If yes, please go to step 3.

If not, don’t worry. Please take 2 minutes to find out who your representatives are online at:

Phone [Please be ready to speak with the legislative aid or a representative from their office]

Hi, I would like to speak with Senator ___ (your senator’s name)/with Delegate ____ (your Delegate’s name). My name is … (list your name) and I live in the Senator’s/Delegate’s district at  …(provide your address-optional).

I’m calling because I’m concerned about HB 1465 which would deny undocumented students, the opportunity to attend a Virginia college or University (list bill number and give a brief description).

Please vote against HB1465 when it comes before the Senate/House. This bill would deny Virginians of future taxpayers and would penalize young talented children for the actions of their parents. (Feel free to add your own description of why you support/oppose a specific piece of legislation) Thank you.
