COALITION OF IMMIGRANT RIGHTS GROUPS ANNOUNCED THE LAUNCH OF “FASTING FOR DAPA CHAIN” & “THE IMMIGRANT TRAIL” CAMPAIGNS
Washington DC. A broad coalition of immigrant rights, including DREAmer’s Mothers in Action, Virginia Coalition of Latino Organizations (VACOLAO), Virginia Coalition for Immigrant Rights (VACIR) announced today the “Fasting For DAPA Chain,” a social media campaign that seeks to recognize the millions of lives that will be affected by the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in United States v. Texas. The Fasting for DAPA Chain campaign begins March 14th, and will continue thru to the April 18th Supreme Court hearing when the Justices will hear oral arguments in the Texas that concerns the Obama Administration’s administrative relief programs “Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) Expansion and Deferred Action for Parents of Americans and Lawful Permanent Residents (DAPA) that concerns the Obama Administration’s Executive Orders for administrative relief (DAPA/DACA Extended).
The “Fasting for DAPA Chain” asks participants to select one day between March 14, 2016 and April 18, 2016 to fast for that day. During that day, we ask participants to take a picture while holding up a sign with the words “Fasting for DAPA” and the date of the fast. Participants will then post to their Social media sites and tag VACOLAO so that we can also share their photo and track the Chain’s progress. VACOLAO also encourages participants to help extend the Chain by inviting their social media connections also to participate.
The “Immigrant Trail” is a silent protest where we will place a trail of shoes with a US flag attached that will lead to the US Supreme Court. The trail will symbolize the harsh journey immigrants face as they walk towards the American Dream. We will be making a trail towards the Supreme Court every Friday starting March 25, 2016 until the hearing date.
