Join the Virginia Coalition of Latino Organizations (VACOLAO)’s annual Immigrant Advocacy Day that will be held during the 2014 Virginia General Assembly Session!
WHAT: VA Immigrant Advocates will travel to Richmond to advocate for immigrant rights including the “Virginia Dream Act” that would expressly authorize Virginia DACA holders to obtain in-state tuition, proposed legislation that would clarify the new Virginia Voter ID law to ensure that all Virginians’ right to vote is protected and respected, combat “notario” fraud and legislation that would implement the Medicaid expansion under the Affordable Care Act in Virginia.
Summary: The day will begin with coffee and policy briefings at 8:30 a.m. at the Richmond Convention Center, just 5 blocks from the General Assembly Building. Participants will walk to the General Assembly building where you will have the opportunity to meet with your legislators, attend committee hearings and watch the General Assembly in action on the House and Senate floors. We will return to the Richmond Convention Center for lunch, an afternoon speaker and a debriefing.
