Join the Virginia Coalition of Latino Organizations (VACOLAO)’s annual Immigrant Advocacy Day: snow day make up that will be held during the 2014 Virginia General Assembly Session!

WHAT: Due to the snowy weather last week, several advocates did not have the chance to travel to Richmond, VACOLA is pleased to announce its Snow Day Make up where Immigrant Advocates will travel to Richmond to advocate for immigrant rights. We still have the chance to advocate for the Virginia Equity Tuition (Virginia Dream Act) in the House of Delegates that would expressly authorize Virginia DACA holders to obtain in-state tuition, combat “notario” fraud and legislation that would implement the Medicaid expansion under the Affordable Care Act in Virginia.

WHEN: Friday, January 31, 2014 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

We will provide transportation leaving from Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 2700 S. 19th Street, Arlington, VA 22204 at 6:15am that morning. Please arrive by 6am. We will be returning to northern Virginia around 4:30pm.  If you are taking the bus, please send us an e-mail at [email protected]  or call us at 703-772-1555.

Virginia Immigrant Advocacy Day 2014

 Tuesday, January 21, 2014 8:30a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Join the Virginia Coalition of Latino Organizations (VACOLAO)’s annual Immigrant Advocacy Day that will be held during the 2014 Virginia General Assembly Session!

WHAT: VA Immigrant Advocates will travel to Richmond to advocate for immigrant rights including the “Virginia Dream Act” that would expressly authorize Virginia DACA holders to obtain in-state tuition, proposed legislation that would clarify the new Virginia Voter ID law to ensure that all Virginians’ right to vote is protected and respected, combat “notario” fraud and legislation that would implement the Medicaid expansion under the Affordable Care Act in Virginia.

Summary: The day will begin with coffee and policy briefings at 8:30 a.m. at the Richmond Convention Center, just 5 blocks from the General Assembly Building. Participants will walk to the General Assembly building where you will have the opportunity to meet with your legislators, attend committee hearings and watch the General Assembly in action on the House and Senate floors. We will return to the Richmond Convention Center for lunch, an afternoon speaker and a debriefing.

We will have transportation available for those unable to walk between the venues

ADVOCACY DAY TRAINING In preparation for the 2014 VA Immigrant Advocacy Day

 WHAT:  In preparation for the 2014 Virginia Immigrant Advocacy Day, we are organizing training  where we will discuss our legislative agenda such as in-state tuition for immigrant youth DACA holders, Medicaid expansion, among others as well as advocacy strategies including the legislative process and legislative advocacy tips during the legislative visits.

WHEN: Thursday, January 16th, 2014 from 7:00 pm – 9:00 p.m. (registration begins at 6:45pm)

WHERE: St. Charles Borromeo Church, 3304 N. Washington Blvd. Arlington, VA 22201

Parking at St. Charles is limited. Consider taking public transportation, as St. Charles is located two blocks from the Clarendon Metro station (orange line).

En preparación del día del Cabildeo del Inmigrante de Virginia

QUE: En preparación del día del cabildeo del inmigrante de Virginia, estamos organizando esta capacitación donde discutiremos nuestra agenda legislativa tales como la matrícula universitaria de los jóvenes inmigrantes que tengan el DACA, expansión de Medicaid, entre otros. Asimismo estrategias de abogacía y cómo funciona el proceso legislativo, y consejos para conversar con los legisladores.
